Week 3, Day 1
LEGOs are hard to resist, regardless of age. Especially for a young boy like Finn, or his father, who seems to be all business with his red tie and stern tone. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, because in this movie, there are life lessons, for dads and sons, families and friends, church people, coworkers…well, you get the point. It all unfolds in the creative mind of this young boy, Finn. It’s a story of how one hero brings people together, and what each of us can learn from it.
“Everything is Awesome”… oh my… This is one of those songs that sticks. Like, you can’t get it out of your head. Everything is awesome! An insidious lyric that will take up residence in your brain. And, in time, might drive you nuts! Or, if you can’t turn it off… will probably drive someone else nuts!
But to get to the point of this movie, we just might need to connect a little deeper into this LEGO world and the very reason Jesus might use it as a teaching tool. Because everything is awesome, when your relationships work. Whether it’s a team, marriage, family, business, or a church family. Life is pretty awesome, when you’re truly a part of something and working together.
Here is our first of three God-sized lessons from The LEGO Movie: We were Created to Connect.
“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.”
1 Corinthians 12:12
The creator of LEGO, Ole Kirk Christiansen, from Denmark, established the name LEGO from a Danish phrase, which means “play well.” And, of course, this is precisely what God our Father wants for us – that we value what it means to play well together.
In Genesis God created us in His image, but something was missing. Adam was alone. We read that there was no suitable companion for him. No one with whom he could connect. Then God created Eve. Community, marriage, family, friends, a team. Something we all desire… connection.
